Cooperation Projects 2010-2011
Two tools from Germany and two tools from the U.S. will be applied in the other country, respectively. These tools are: Smart Growth, PLACES, SINBRA, and Optirisk®.
The Smart Growth Project Scorecard will be applied in the City of Chemnitz in the German Federal State of Saxony. Translation of the Scorecard into German was finished in January 2011. In February, the City of Chemnitz will chose a project to which the Scorecard will be applied. The adaptation of the Scorecard to the situation in Chemnitz, a shrinking city, will also provide guidance as to how similar situations in the U.S. can be addressed. For further information, contact Uwe Ferber or Tamar Shapiro. Information regarding the application of the PLACES approach in Germany Discussions for collaboration started with the City of Biedenkopf on November 25, 2010 when a first meeting with two representatives of the City of Biedenkopf took place. Next, decision makers of Biedenkopf will be informed about the intended project. A first workshop is planned for June 2011. For further information, contact Verle Hansen, Philippe Schmidt, or Alena Bleicher. Information regarding the application of the SINBRA approach in Indianapolis, Indiana The SINBRA sustainability assessment toolkit will be applied to the Monon Acres site in Indianapolis, Indiana to establish which kind of land use would be the best for sustainable urban development. Early in January 2011, the assessment tool will be discussed in detail between the partners. An assessment panel of local experts will be assembled and informed about the procedure by May 2011. At the same time, the Indianapolis partners are looking for a second site that is suitable for the assessment procedure. For further information, contact Christopher Harrell or Wolfgang Müller. Information regarding the application of the Optirisk® e-tool in Troutdale, Oregon The Optirisk® e-tool will be applied in the City of Troutdale, Oregon where the city plans to redevelop a brownfield site formerly occupied by a municipal sewage plant and a rendering plant. A first site visit and kick-off meeting with the Mayor of Troutdale took place in October 2010, to evaluate the suitability of the site for the application of Optirisk®. The site was found suitable and now Integrated Site Development Concepts for optimal re-use of this brownfield site will be developed. Further information about Optirisk® can be found at www.optirisk.de For further information, contact Doug McCourt or Anika Homuth. Click here for a PDF of the Troutdale article shown below
